Embrace Positive Change at the Sun Valley Wellness Festival
Spring is a time for new beginnings and there is no better place to renew your body and spirit than in Sun Valley, Idaho this Memorial Day weekend, at the 13th annual Sun Valley Wellness Festival. The four-day celebration, held at the famous Sun Valley Resort May 28-31, will focus on the theme of Creating Your Own Well Being, and will include more than fifty presentations and workshops addressing various modalities of body, mind, and spirit wellness.
Leading off the long list of impressive, nationally-renowned speakers is keynote speaker Jamie Lee Curtis. The renowned actress and author of nine books will speak about, in her words, the "personal exploration of the choices we make, good and bad, and the ability to change the course of our lives. Along the way we will debunk myths and connect the dots, hopefully, about some essential truths. All that from someone with zero credentials to do so.”
The festival is also very pleased to feature Abraham Verghese, the author of the best-seller Cutting for Stone, who will discuss the importance of the doctor—patient relationship, the samaritan function of physicians, and where meaning resides in a medical life. Lama Surya Das, author of the international bestseller Awakening the Buddha Within, and who His Holiness the Dalai Lama calls the American Lama, will talk about healing yourself and healing the world. Financial healer Spencer Sherman will introduce a step-by-step plan for achieving greater prosperity and peace of mind — even in today's turbulent economy. Judith Hanson Lasater will share five lessons from yoga that will change your life, and herbal expert Karta Purkh Singh Khalsa will reveal how to successfully treat colds, flu, headaches, fevers, muscle pain, allergies, wounds, insomnia, low energy, as well as more serious illnesses with healing herbs. Dr. James Hollis will address finding meaning in the second half of life, sharing how to recover a sense of personal authority, strike a better balance between obligation to others and obligation to self, and construct a more mature spirituality. A new parenting track will feature Susan Kaiser Greenland, who will teach parents practicing mindful awareness with children, teens and their families, and Deb Snyder, an expert on intuitive parenting. This is just a sampling of the many speakers who will be presenting over the weekend. More information on these and other speakers can be found on the festival website.
In addition to a fantastic line-up of speakers and workshops, the Sun Valley Wellness Festival will offer a Movement Studio with a variety of ongoing classes, including yoga, belly dancing, Crossfit, Zumba and others taught by several outstanding teachers. The Exhibit Hall runs all weekend and features vendors selling wonderful products from healthy chocolate to beautiful clothing to jewelry and health products. In the Hands-On-Hall visitors can get a massage, have a reading, or even get a henna tattoo.
On Sunday Grammy-Award winning singer/songwriter Colbie Caillat will entertain the festival crowd at the Sun Valley Pavilion. Her music, including hit songs "Bubbly" and "Lucky" with Jason Mraz, is upbeat and bright, and it promises to be a great evening for all.
Tickets start at $30 and can be purchased online at www.sunvalleywellness.org , where a complete schedule of events is available, as well as special Wellness Festival lodging rates and other visitor information.
