Dr. Sharp
began her career in the medical field by completing her B.S. in Nursing from the
University of Colorado in 1975. After working in the Newborn ICU at the
Children's Hospital in Denver Colorado for five years, she moved to Cleveland,
Ohio to pursue her M.D. at Case Western Reserve University, which she completed
in 1984. Dr. Sharp also holds a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology
from the University of North Carolina, completed in 1990.
Upon
completion of her M.D., Dr. Sharp filled an internship at the University
Hospitals, in Cleveland, Ohio. While at the University Hospitals, she also
served as Junior Assistant Resident, and then as Senior Assistant Resident of
Internal Medicine through 1987.
From
1987-1990, Dr. Sharp filled a fellowship in Cardiology at the University of
Utah. From 1990-1993, Dr. Sharp served as an Instructor in Medicine,
Division of Cardiology at the University of Utah. She is an Adjunct
Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Utah.
After her
teaching, Dr. Sharp became a staff Cardiologist of the Salt Lake Clinic and LDS
Hospital. From 1993 to the present, Dr. Sharp has worked with the Heart
Center doing what she loves best - working as a cardiologist.
Dr. Sharp
holds many honors and awards. She received the Teagle Foundation
Scholarship and the University of Colorado Scholarship for Academic
Achievement. She is a member of both the Sigma Theta Tau and the Phi Beta
Kappa National Honor Societies. From 1980-1984 she was again awarded the
Teagle Foundation Scholarship.
Dr. Sharp
continues to be a member of a number of prestigious medical chapters, including
American Board of Internal Medicine, American
College of Physicians, Utah Academy for Preventive Medicine, Society for
Epidemiologic Research, American Heart Association's Council on Epidemiology and
Prevention, and the American Federation for Clinical Research. Dr. Sharp
is also a Fellow
of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr.
Sharp's professional interests include
Echocardiography, especially babies in the newborn unit at St.
Mark's Hospital, adult congenital heart disease, valvular heart disease,
preventive cardiology and nuclear imaging. Dr. Sharp is board certified in
Internal Medicine, Cardiology and "Testamur" of the American
Society of Echocardiography's competence exam, and is Certified in
Nuclear Cardiology.
Additionally,
she enjoys volunteer activities. She served as a member of the Board of
Directors, American Heart Association, Western States Affiliate,
1997-1999, and is the Past president of the Utah Division of the AHA.
A native
of Vernal, UT, Dr. Sharp loves spending time with her family. Dr. Sharp
and her husband, Lee, have a four year old daughter, Rachel, and three
step-children - Andrew, Lizzie and Megan. Lee grew up living all over the
world, and now he and Dr. Sharp enjoy overseas traveling. Most recently
they toured Spain, Portugal, and Ireland.
Additionally,
they enjoy hiking, running, cooking, movies, and especially books. Dr.
Sharp is an avid reader (when she can find time!)
